About Laurel Gale
I take photographs of wildlife in the western United States, including Washington, Idaho, and Montana. I am in awe of the amazing animals around me, whether it's a magnificent great blue heron, a fierce osprey, or a funny marmot. When I am in nature, all of my worries melt away, and I feel joy and wonder. I want to share this with others through my wildlife photography.
Although some images show the beauty of the surrounding landscape, I prefer close-up wildlife photographs that show off the tiny details that you might not normally notice, even when seeing the birds and other animals in person. To achieve this close-up look without getting too close to the wildlife, I use a telephoto lens (600mm) for most of my wildlife photos. I may also crop the images as needed to improve the composition and bring focus to the animal.
For my wildlife photos, in addition to cropping, I may adjust lighting and tone, reduce noise, add sharpening, add blurring, or remove minor distractions, imperfections, and lens distortions as needed to create a beautiful wildlife image that can decorate your home or office while trying to stay true to the scene I observed.
For my photographic art pieces, I get more creative with the way I edit my wildlife photographs. Sometimes I keep the original background, but sometimes I replace it with a new background that makes the wildlife subject pop. Some images are a composite of two or more photographs. I also adjust the color, lighting, and texture to express my creative vision for the piece, sometimes resulting in a "painterly" appearance. Use the full-resolution preview to see the detail, and see the image description for more information.
If you ever have any questions about an image, please feel free to ask me!
A "Fine Art America" or "Pixels" watermark will appear in the full-size preview. This watermark does NOT appear on the art that is ordered.
I don't allow users to crop images to avoid issues with reduced quality. However, if you would like an image in a different dimension, send me a message, and I'll see if I can do it. For example, if the image is 18x12, and you want a 12x12 crop, I can usually upload the requested crop. To maintain quality control, I may not be able to provide images that are larger than what is listed. If you want one of my images on a mug and it's not available, send me a message. I need to upload a special version with the correct dimensions, and I haven't gotten around to all them yet.
